Library assistant, Al-Furqan Islamic Heritage Foundation
Celeste Gianni is library assistant at Al-Furqan Islamic Heritage Foundation since 2012. She is also Ph.D. candidate at SOAS, University of London - Department of Near and Middle East. Her research project is entitled: “Poetics of the catalogue: library catalogues in the Arab cities of the late Ottoman period“. Her recent publication “Kitab salat al-sawa'i: protagonisti, vicende, ed ipotesi attorno al primo libro arabo stampato con caratteri mobili” [Kitab salat al-sawa'i: protagonists, facts and hypothesis around the first Arabic book printed in movable types'] was published in Culture del testo e del documento, Manziana: Vecchiarelli, June 2012 and presented at SHARP (Society for the History of Authorship, Reading & Publishing) Conference in Belgium in 2014. In 2011, her translation from Arabic to Italian of the book “Giochi di società, all’aperto e in casa: programme ricreativi per giovani” ['Group games for children (indoor and outdoor)'] was published in Nuovi Quaderni di Area UISP, ed. UISP. She completed her MA in Arabic Literature at SOAS in 2011 and her BA degree in Oriental languages and cultures at the Università “Carlo Bo” di Urbino in 2009.
Summer Scout for Disadvantaged Children project aims to enable children aged between 9-15 to actively engage with peers through educational and leisurely scout activities resulting in a better understanding of using their free time wisely and actively, thus building their self-esteem and confidence by developing their social interaction and communication skills.
British Engagement Project for Displaced Children seeks to enhance understanding of British values, culture, and history through a professionally developed non-informal curricula designed for displaced (i.e. asylum seekers, refugees, forced migrants) families children, aged between 11-16.
On 27 November 2015, LCSS has successfully organised a roundtable at SOAS to discuss the recent Migrant Crisis
In August 2015, LCSS has successfully conducted the Training Programme on Ottoman and Archival Studies, which took place in London and Oxford.
