Meeting Time: 14.30

Pick up Time (For Parents): 17.30

This trip will build on the knowledge that the children will have developed from previous activities, and from school. We will introduce them to the political history of Britain and how the political system functions with the Monarchy. We hope that this trip will help the children be able to create their own opinions, and to learn that it is ok not to agree with everyone else about how the country is run.

Highlights of the Activity

  • The structure of the parliament; House of Commons and House of Lords.
  • The structure of the United Kingdom; England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.
  • How these counties are governed by the Westminster government and by their local governments.
  • How laws are made in the UK.
  • What are the main political parties and what they stand for?
  • The debating culture in the House of Commons. The House of Commons has been described as the “greatest debating chamber in the world”
  • Contemporary political figures and events.
