Embracing the Future: Tackling anti-social behaviour and discrimination

This seminar was organised by the London Centre for Social Studies (LCSS). It was the forth of the LCSS 2004/2005 Embracing the Future seminar series.

In this seminar Roy Tedscoe started his talk making a description of anti-social behaviour which is a singling out of a person or group etc. for special favour or disfavour often because of a characteristic such as race, colour, sex, creed, and intelligence.

Then he stressed on some standard and highly recognasible characteristics of the above behaviours. These are displayed as violence, abuse and vandalism. On this basis he reminds us that both antisocial and discriminatory behaviour can be overt and/or covert. There are no absolutes in this but by knowing about it and understanding what it is we can deal with it because although it takes place everyday these kind of things have no place in civilised society.

He points out that knowledge and understanding are the power that allows change to happen and be embedded in us and as being an educationalist he emphasizes the importance of believing in this change at least doing our best.

He concluded his seminar by highlighting the requirement of patience, endless repetition, empathy family solidity, being a good role model and persistence in trying to combat antisocial behaviour and discrimination.
