
Dr Tom McKenzie
Fellow at LCSS & Lecturer at University of Dundee
Tom has a background in economics and mathematics and holds degrees from the Universities of Bonn and Cologne. He is a research fellow at Cass Business School, City University London and an approved researcher of the Office for National Statistics. Tom is based at the ESRC Centre for Charitable Giving and Philanthropy where he specialises in the analysis of household expenditure data. Previously, he taught applied microeconomics at the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences, University of Cologne. Tom has published several papers in academic journals and he also writes articles for practitioners and policymakers. His work has featured in national and international media including the Financial Times, The Guardian, Il Sole 24 Ore, FOCUS and China Radio International.
Tom is fluent in several languages, having lived, studied and worked in France, Gabon, Germany, Italy, Turkey and the United Kingdom.Tom has a strong interest in social and economic affairs and joined the London Centre for Social Studies in 2010 for its many interdisciplinary seminars and workshops. He participated in the Turkish Migration in Europe conference at Regent’s College, London in 2012 as well as the Gender and Migration conference held at Marmara University, Istanbul in 2013. Tom currently volunteers as an adviser for the Public Policy Platform and is involved in the Diversity at the top project.
