At IU: Dr Balim Harding is the Associate Director of the Center for the Study of the Middle East (CSME), and a Senior Lecturer in the Dept of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures (2005 ). She is Affiliated Faculty for Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center; Russian and East European Institute; West European Centre; Islamic Studies Program; and  Advisory Board Member for Center for the Study of Global Change, ‘Muslim Visions and Sounds’ Project.

Other: She is also the Senior Examiner for Turkish Studies for the International Baccalaureate Organization , and an Associate Editor for Women’s Studies International Forum (Elsevier),

In the UK: Between 1988- 2004, she served as the Chair of Department of Middle Eastern Studies; Coordinator for Research Group on Central Asia and the Caucasus; Director of Middle Eastern Studies Continuing Education and Training Unit, University of Manchester, UK as well as a Subject Assessor for Oriental and African Studies for Higher Education Funding Council (HEFC), UK, and as the Executive Director of British Society for Middle Eastern Studies(BRISMES).

In Turkey: Between 1981 – 1987, she was the Chair of Department of Foreign Language Teacher Training, at Gazi University, Turkey, and Advisor to Turkish Ministry of Education, Secondary and Higher Educatrion. She worked for UN and Unesco, representing Turkey.
