
Dr Zerrin Ozlem Biner
Anthropology, University of Cambridge
Dr Biner studied Sociology and Social Anthropology at Koc University in Istanbul and at the Universities of London and Cambridge before obtaining her Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge. Dr. Biner’s current research project is entitled “Imagined Cosmopolites of Mardin: An Ethnographic Study of Cosmopolitanism from the Margins of Contemporary Turkey.”
Dr Biner has done extensive research on the experience of the state, memory of violence, cosmopolitanism, property relations, perception of justice and reconcilation in Southeastern Turkey. She also conducted research on diasporic Assyrian-Syriac Communities in Sweden with a special focus on transnational movements and its effects on claims for citizenship rights.
