
Prof Christoph Meyer

Professor Christoph Meyer (MPhil, PhD, Cambridge) is the Head of the Department of European & International Studies at King’s College London. Prof Meyer is a specialist in studying political communication and culture in Europe. He has written about the prospects for a European public sphere as a communicative space for European citizens to discuss issues of common concern and hold European institutions to account for their actions (published by Vistas 2002). He has also written about whether national ideas and norms about the use of force are converging towards a European Strategic Culture , i.e. whether Europeans can agree on how to use force, under what circumstances, and against what kind of threats (Towards a European Strategic Culture, Palgrave 2006). He has also worked on questions of risk and preventive action and is the Director of the Foresight research groups which looks at warning and preventive action. He has been active in policy debates through publishing, inter alia, in the Financial Times and the International Herald Tribune as well as through policy briefs written for the Centre for European Policy Studies and the Egmont Institute.
