Berna is a PhD candidate in the Social Anthropology and Ethnology Department of Ecole des Hautes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), Paris. Her thesis is on public women’s shelters in Turkey as an institutional response to violence against women. She worked with Åsa Eldén on a research project that problematises femicides in contemporary Turkey and explores interactions between feminists, media and the state. Her most recent publications include Men’s Violence, Visibility and Media, Women Citizen’s Network Publications: Istanbul, 2014 (in Turkish, edited by Berna Ekal and Åsa Eldén) and ‘Women’s Shelters in Turkey. Whose Responsibility?’ Éthnologie française, XLIV, 2, 2014, pp. 237-246. She also translated Eva Lundgren’s book The Process of Normalizing Violence into Turkish.
