Can practises in all areas of Chambers’ work, with a particular emphasis on commercial dispute resolution (including international arbitration), insurance & reinsurance, professional liability, sports law, and public law and human rights.

Since joining Chambers, Can has appeared successfully before the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, the High Court, and numerous county courts around the country. In addition, Can has acted in domestic and international arbitrations as well as in applications before the Turkish Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights.

Can is rated as a ‘Leading Junior’ barrister in Legal 500 and is described in Chambers and Partners as “extraordinarily easy to deal with. He can turn work around instantly and do a brilliant job. He doesn’t put a foot wrong”.

In 2013 Can was featured as one of ten “Stars at the Bar” by Legal Week Magazine where he was described as “an excellent mind with a real talent for picking out the key issues” “very persuasive” “older and wiser than his call suggests” “really inspires confidence”.

Commercial: Can is regularly instructed in relation to a wide range of commercial disputes, often in matters with an international dimension. His court and arbitral experience spans general contractual disputes, conflicts of law or jurisdictional issues, insurance, copyright, technology contracts, sales of goods, financial services claims and civil fraud. Can’s court experience ranges from applications for urgent injunctive relief to 18 week trials in the Commercial Court.

Professional Liability: Can’s professional liability practice encompasses claims for and against a range of professionals including valuers, surveyors, construction professionals, lawyers – both barristers and solicitors – and insurance brokers in the county courts, QBD and Chancery Division of the High Court.

Public Law and Human Rights: Can’s practice covers all areas of public law, with a particular focus on judicial review in the party political funding, coronial and regulatory contexts (including judicial review challenges to the Financial Ombudsman Service, the Legal Ombudsman and the Financial Services Compensation Scheme). In addition, Can has an expertise in human rights law and in particular: (i) the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; and (ii) the right to freedom of expression in UK law, under the European Convention on Human Rights, and in international law.

Other core areas of practice: Can is developing a practice in the fields of sports law, employment law, costs law and construction-related litigation.
