Facing Our Demons – Junk versus Nutritious Foods – To What Extend Our Eating Habits Can Damage Our Health?
Dr Ihab Tewfik explained how much of the world is facing a sharp increase of the number of obese children and adults. Dr Tewfik argued that the increasing obesity epidemic points towards the need for urgent strategies that develop multifaceted global and national plans for the adequate prevention and management of obesity. He claimed that successful prevention of obesity should be one of the primary targets in public health nutrition. He went on to say, “It has been argued that obesity is a normal response to an abnormal environment, rather than an abnormal response to an abnormal environment. Stimulation of physical activity and the promotion of healthy eating habits are essential.” Dr Tewfik concluded by explaining how modification of lifestyle habits should not rely on personal advice only, but should also address components of the physical, economic and sociocultural environments in which individuals live.
