How to Train Parents Seminar I-II-III

London Centre for Social Studies is organising a new seminar series titled ‘How to train parents’ as an outcome from the previous seminars; ‘Embracing the Future: Turks in the British Education System’.

The conclusions of the seminars indicated that “Parents’ involvement in their children’s education plays a key role in pupils’ academic achievement”.  A step forward to realize this is to organise a programme to tackle the problem of training parents.

There have been many pockets of achievement to improve the educational awareness of Turkish parents by individuals, civil organisations as well as government offices.  These efforts concentrated only on some aspects of the problem that the parents are facing, however no effort has been given to systematically analyse the bigger picture and develop a compherensive solution.

We believe it is crucial to gather and share the experiences of  valued academics and social workers on parents’ training to establish wider participation and improved communication of the parties.

With this aim in our vision, we would like to invite you to a series of 3 meetings to discuss the ways to improve parents’ involvement in their children’s education.

Objectives of these meetings are:

  • To inform and train parents of Turkish origin to improve the social and academic achievement of TS children;
  • To develop an effective strategy and method to reach and train TS parents;
  • To identify the areas in training TS parents where the most work should be focused at;
  • To produce guidelines & materials to be used in training parents and publish a book;
  • To set up a training programme for parents.
