Impact of International Shipping on Global Economy and the Importance of the International Maritime Organisation

In the mid-sixties, the introduction of the container in international shipping had a huge impact on international trade, as the volume of trade in products grew more than twice as fast as the volume of global production, and two and a half times faster than global economic output. Transportation and trade? are indispensable of one another and certainly dependant upon each other. Sea born trade being the artery of international trade is crucial for the global economy. What is the quantifiable impact of shipping on the global economy and on our daily lives? How is such an important pillar of the global economy maintained? Is international shipping a green mode of transport? The answers to these questions and many more will be addressed through the discussion.
