Al-Furqan Islamic Heritage Foundation, Head of the Library & Online Database Department
Karima Benaicha has been with Al-Furqan Islamic Heritage Foundation since 1997, serving as Head of the Library & Online Database Department since 2007. Karima has a Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Studies and a Master’s degree in Information Science. Her research interests are centred on information access, cataloguing practices for Islamic manuscripts and Authority files.
Karima is passionate about working on different projects that increase awareness and accessibility to the wealth of information available in the world of written Islamic heritage. As Head of the Library she completed development of the Foundation’s digital library system in 2014. The digital library allows cross searching between various collections; one of these collection is the “World Collection” which is the digital embodiment of the publication, World Survey of Islamic Manuscripts (4 vols.) another collection is the Islamic manuscripts which builds upon the significant work already accomplished by the Foundation through its published catalogues.
Currently Karima is very excited about expending awareness and developing partnerships which further enhance the content and make the information more useful for scholars.
