LCSS Welcome Reception 2010/11

London Centre for Social Studies (LCSS) brought together UK based academics, researchers and postgraduate students at the beginning of the 2010/11 academic year. The event was intended to give Turkish students an insight into the UK educational system and provide valuable networking opportunities.

The event began with a presentation from Miss Alev Yaman, briefly explaining the work and objectives of the LCSS.

The opening remarks were made by Mr. Nihat Akbulut, who welcomed the students and highlighted the importance of their postgraduate studies. Mrs. Evelyne Rugg spoke on behalf of the vice chancellor, Prof. Geoffrey Petts and explained Westminster University’s potential relation with educational institutions in Turkey.

Prof. Izzet Kale talked about his experiences in the UK educational system and gave advice on how to plan ahead. Dr Gul Berna Ozcan provided guidance on how to formulate research questions and develop good relations with supervisors. Our final speaker was Mr. Kadir Bas who spoke about his academic journey as a student.

The LCSS would like to thank all the speakers and guests for attending the event. A special thank you to Westminster University for their support and collaboration.
