
Prof Salim Ayduz

Professor Salim Ayduz is currently Director at the British Muslim Heritage Centre, Manchester, UK at the Centre’s Heritage Department. He is Chief Editor for two websites: http://heritageofislam.co.uk/ & www.islamandscience.co.uk.
Since 1998, Dr Ayduz holds a PhD in “History of Ottoman Firearms and Cannon Founding Technology” awarded by Istanbul University (Department of History of Science). He held the positions of senior lecturer in Ottoman Studies at the Fatih University (Istanbul, 1999-2012) and the Medeniyet University (Istanbul, 2012-2014). He was a visiting scholar at both Indiana University (USA) and the University of Manchester (UK). Professor Ayduz has both either authored or co-authored 8 books, and produced 68 full paper publications, 16 online articles, and more than 120 articles for learned encyclopaedias. He is the co-editor of the Oxford Encyclopaedia of Philosophy, Science and Technology in Islam (Ibrahim Kalin, Editor-in-Chief; Oxford University Press, New York, 2014). Professor Ayduz also contributed to the book 1001 Inventions: Muslim Heritage in Our World (ed. S. T S. Al-Hassani et al, Manchester: FSTC, 2006). His work includes book reviews, translations and contributions to numbers of academic events, projects, TV and radio documentaries, exhibitions and high profile public events in Turkey and UK. Professor Ayduz is fluent in Turkish, Ottoman Turkish, and English.
