Public Policy Workshop 2 – ‘Happiness and Public Policy’ and Open Policy Making

An informal workshop organised by the Public Policy Platform was held for the benefit of LCSS and its Public Policy Platform members. There were two presentations given during the workshop with the first on ‘Happiness and Public Policy’ given by Valentina Zigante (LSE) and the second was about Open Policy Making whch was given by Beatrice Andrews (Cabinet Office). Valentina’s presentation was based on her PhD research, drawing on the literature available on happiness as well as the UK government’s recent focus on measuring happiness and the possibilities to use the evidence to inform policy. Beatrice’s presentation was based on the Open Policy Making team’s support and encouragement for other government departments in introducing new approaches to policy making.

The session was chaired by Dr Tom McKenzie who is a research fellow at Cass Business School.
